Metamorphic Lessons from Nature: Decomposition, Transmutation and Reformation

I began with the heroine of my site, a beautiful downed tree whose branches arch up gracefully from its trunk. It brings to mind a whale skeleton, bones, marrow. No doubt the tree hosts and nurtures a myriad of tiny beings as it slowly composts itself back into the forest floor. The tree's process of decomposition becomes a catalyst for the transformation and renewal of the forest community. This process acts as a blueprint and inspiration for my own work and installation, and perhaps a model for a regenerative future worthy of all of humanity's consideration.

My work of late has been focused on nature and the environment and I was thrilled to get the chance to create a land-based piece that would allow me work with and in nature. I’ve been wanting to work with invasive plants for a long time and this was the perfect opportunity to realize that desire.
