Eva Haykin - My Land Art Residency project focuses on themes of water, transformation/temporality, and changes to body and climate as depicted through screen-printed imagery on handmade paper. Made from site-sourced fibres and pigments as well as the my own hair, this 2D series is intended to be temporal: Although prints will be lightly treated with a biodegradable sealant as a short-term preservation measure, they will eventually weather and enmesh within The Verdancy Project’s ecosystem through gradual decomposition. I plan to install pieces sequentially (in front of one another) beneath an opening in the tree canopy by the stream’s meander, utilizing shifting light to expose the translucent qualities of the paper’s natural fibres.
Zae Anne and Michael Robin - Our land art location on TVP is based on the orientation of the sun and malleability of the land. The trees to the west produce filtered light over the circle as the sun begins to set and the ground soft for digging with the assistance of mole holes. We carved an imperfect 16 ft diameter circle to produce a container within the natural environment for improvised physical rituals. The ground below and air
above becomes more thin with accumulating focus and attention. The removal of the rocks within the circle were repurposed to create an entry gate at true north. Visiting creative collaborators served as an organizing principle to spawn a series of improvised rituals. The rituals involved the creation of clay sculptures, ghostly gnomes, and their transformation to animate through movement. The water element softened the ground within the circle to serve as a canvas to observe the collection of the improvised ritualistic tracks. The fire element hardened and destroyed clay sculptures in the center of the circle each week, their fragments blended with the mud.
Megan Chin - Using all natural biodegradable materials Megan is creating a site specific installation holding a reverence for complexity and interconnectedness. During Tend & Tell, Megan will provide an introduction to the practice of Deep Listening, including a free zine and facilitate a group participatory deep listening exercise.
