Jocelyn Rice of Black Earth United - She/Her

Jocelyn Rice's Terra Incognita work, "The Night the Stars Fell," honors the liberation and empowerment of her ancestors. Inspired by the courageous life of Jane Clark, Jocelyn creates an immersive experience symbolizing uncharted territories of personal liberation and collective freedom. Visitors embark on a transformative journey guided by a vibrant red string through a tunnel, connecting with the essence of unraveling the threads of history and resilience. At the final destination, the participants encounter a captivating boat adorned with wooden figures, guiding them through the uncharted territories of personal growth and collective liberation. This Quantum Black futurist exploration invites reflection, unity, and hope, amplifying the voices of those who lived through the horrors of chattel slavery. The dream is that "The Night the Stars Fell" becomes a powerful catalyst for a brighter future.

Engaging with the Terra Incognita project allows me to honor the narratives of our ancestors, contribute to a collective resilience, and explore new dimensions of artistic expression. This adventure has been one of growth, connection, and a celebration of nature’s beauty.
