Kendra Roberts - She/Her
I am fascinated by the ancient megalithic structures of Great Britain and the stone circles where people congregated to observe stellar and solar occurrences, the passing of time and the coming seasons. To this day, one can go and stand among these stones to imagine what had gone on within and around them. Today we live with convenient modern technologies, no longer relying on nature, and we are distanced from the earth and from one another. My work depicts the veneration of sacred, natural spaces – of being connected to the earth and to oneself - about balance, focus, direction, shared responsibility and protection.

An artist, curator, program developer and producer, Kendra Roberts has demonstrated her creative, analytical, and strategic acumen throughout her career. Founder of Kendra Studio Jewellery (KSJ), she is an award-winning artist and published writer, has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, and even made an appearance on a major television network. Kendra is founder of Common Ground Arts (CGA), a creative consultancy focused on the development of public art programming in non-traditional, unexpected places. Most recently, Kendra joined Blackfish Gallery as their director of public engagement. She received her B.A. at DePauw University and her Master of Design from the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. “For Terra Incognita the work centered around pure manual labor: hauling rocks up the hill from the creek bed and carefully placing them in line with the four cardinal directions. It was a very meditative process and I was grateful that the scale for this project was smaller than those of the ancient megalithic communities that inspired this work.”
