Passion Project Mentoring Residency

Most artists have a project they keep meaning to get to. The book you've wanted to write, the series that's been forming in the back of your mind, the exhibition you can picture but haven't found a home for. Then client work, teaching, and the rest of life come first, and the project that matters most to you gets pushed to next season.

This is a six-month mentorship for one project you care about. You'll have regular one-on-one time with me, a week of residency at The Verdancy Project, and help sharing the finished work with an audience. My job is to help you keep moving on it when everything else is pulling at you, and to ask how it's going and expect an answer.

2027 is the pilot year. Two spots.

Who is it for:
Artists in any discipline who already have a working practice and want structure around one specific project. A book or manuscript, a series or collection, an exhibition, a performance piece. Projects you've already started are welcome.

What's included:

  • A clear plan. An onboarding questionnaire and a first call to set a defined endpoint for your six months.

  • Monthly one-on-one calls. One two-hour call each month, six in total, held online.

  • Check-ins between calls. Two support emails a month, so there's never a long stretch without someone asking how it's going.

  • Mentorship shaped around how you work. I'll learn how you take feedback and where you tend to stall, and you'll get direct feedback on the work itself.

  • One week of residency at TVP. Time on our 4.5 acres in Troutdale, Oregon to focus on nothing but the project.

  • Help sharing the finished work. A presentation here, or my help planning one where you live.

Logistics:

  • 6 months / February 1 through July 31, 2027

  • Onboarding in January

  • Monthly calls held online

  • 1 week onsite at TVP, scheduled between April and July

  • Residents are responsible for their own travel

Pilot Pricing:

Pay in full — $1,700

Monthly — $200 at enrollment, then $270 a month for 6 months ($1,820 total). The monthly option costs a little more because I carry the cost of spreading payments out.

Extension — $250 a month, up to three months, for anyone who wants more time after July.

The pilot rate includes the residency week. In return, I'll ask for feedback along the way and a short testimonial at the end. Regular pricing starting in 2028 will be $2,500.

We understand the financial considerations artists face, and that's why we diligently work to minimize costs while maximizing the value we offer. If you're seeking grants or funding opportunities, we're more than willing to provide letters of acceptance and any necessary documentation to help you secure financial support.

“I am an artist with multiple disabilities and this residency was perfect for me. Shannon was communicative and caring, asking questions that were supportive and un-intrusive. There weren't requirements for productivity, which meant I could work as slowly as my body needed me to, and I was offered a scholarship, which made it possible to do this work that had been waiting a long time for a forested space just like this. I was cozy enough in the studio that I was able to be there all day. The forested space is just big enough that you can feel alone when you want to, and just small enough that you don't have to go far to do so. Would recommend for chronically-ill artists like myself. - Juliet J. - Duarte, CA
